The Department of Student Services supports the academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of students in a safe and healthy environment. Student Services oversees the District’s Early Childhood Program, Special Education Program, and Health Services.

About Student Services 

The Department of Student Services supports the academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of students in a safe and healthy environment. The Student Services Department oversees the District’s Early Childhood Program, Special Education Program, and Health Services. These services include:

  • Special Education/Individualized Education Programs (IEP)

  • Section 504 Plans

  • Health Services

  • McKinney-Vento supports for students experiencing homelessness

  • Supports for students in foster care placements

  • Enrollment and Student Records Management

The District’s Student Services Department provides special education programs and services for children in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Illinois Administrative Code. Section 504 Plans are developed for students with disabilities and/or health conditions requiring accommodations within the school setting.

Section 504 Services

Students who do not qualify for an Individualized Education Program (IEP) under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act may qualify for services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 if the child 1) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, 2) has a record of physical or mental impairment, or 3) is regarded as having a physical or mental impairment. All children with disabilities have the right to a free and appropriate public education.

If you have concerns about your child and believe that he/she has a disability that may require Section 504 Plan accommodations or special education services, please contact your child’s school administrator to begin the referral process.

Notice: Faith’s Law Resource Guide

Faith’s Law, a law named after a prevention advocate and child sexual abuse survivor from Illinois went into effect July 01, 2023. This law impacts state laws related to educator sexual misconduct in K-12 schools.

ISBE has developed and maintains the Faith’s Law Resource Guide that includes guidance for pupils, parents/guardians, and teachers about sexual abuse responses and prevention resources available in their community, including the contact information of entities that provide services for victims of child sexual abuse and their families. 

Notice: Access to Interpreter Services

Interpreter services are provided to parents/ guardians who are deaf or do not typically communicate using spoken English in order to participate in multidisciplinary conferences, Section 504 meetings, and IEP meetings as well as due process hearings or mediation. In order to receive interpreter services, please contact your child’s school principal or the director of student services.
